SCPHCA to Partner with Gov. Haley's The Original Six Foundation & CareSouth Carolina for a Health & Job Fair

On Saturday, August 18, from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., the SCPHCA in partnership with Gov. Nikki Haley's The Original Six Foundation and CareSouth Carolina will provide free medical and oral health screenings along with an employment fair at the Marlboro County High School in Bennettsville, SC. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.

The program provides access to health care for the underserved, and is co-sponsored by Henry Schein Cares, the global social responsibility program of Henry Schein, the largest distributor of health care products and services to office-based health care practitioners. It is expected that approximately 600 children and their caregivers will participate in this event.

In partnership with hundreds of community volunteers, the event will provide a variety of components and resources that will be determined in collaboration with local leaders in Marlboro County. Activities will include a job fair that will provide attendees the opportunity to work on their resume and link them with employers who will be on-site.

Health care volunteers will address diseases and risk factors that commonly afflict children, such as hypertension, asthma, diabetes, obesity and poor oral health. Check-ups will include vision, hearing, asthma, and dental screenings. Children and their parents/caregivers will receive educational materials about the prevention and treatment of health issues and referrals to a local clinic or doctor's office if needed. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering for this event, please contact Priscilla Brantley at [email protected] or 803-788-2778.

Transportation will be provided.

The Original Six Foundation was organized as a major statewide initiative that will help provide the tools and resources needed for challenged South Carolina communities to grow economically.
If you would like to participate as a sponsor or exhibitor, please contact Ms. Cynthia R. Frazier ([email protected]) or Ms. April Lewis ([email protected]) on or before Friday, July 30th, by calling at 803.788.2778. Space and sponsorship opportunities are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis.
