New Horizon, volunteer win national award
New Horizon Family Health Services volunteer Inez Morris and the clinic's Ryan White Consumer Advocacy Board has won the Award for Consumer Engagement in Quality Improvement from the National Quality Center.
The NQC works with the Health Resources and Services Administration HIV/AIDS Bureau to help recipients of Ryan White funds improve the quality of care for people with HIV.
Morris, who is chair of the advocacy board, was singled out for her interest in the team, helping to recruit new members and learning about quality improvement measures.
During the past year, the board developed a survey to assess the psychosocial support offered to patients as well as a resource guide and newsletter, formed a women's support group, and brought information about HIV to the community in conjunction with other local groups.
The advocacy board gives patients "a voice in the quality and effectiveness of delivery to care, and our program benefits from the input and guidance of the very consumers we are here to serve," officials said, adding that Morris is "an incredible asset to our team and makes a difference for both staff and the patients.
