Sumter Family Health Center Changes Name to Tandem Health

posted on Monday, October 01, 2018

Sumter Family Health Center is excited to announce that effective October 1, 2018, the center will become Tandem Health. The reason for this name change was based largely on the need to re-create the health center's identity so that all of the many health care services they deliver, along with the various locations of each practice, could be easily communicated and identified within the community with the use of one name.

"We believe this improves the effectiveness of our message and further enhances our ability to deliver comprehensive healthcare services in a manner that truly contributes to the community's well-being," said Annie Brown, Chief Executive Officer at Tandem Health, formerly Sumter Family Health Center.

"The vast growth Tandem Health has experienced in recent years has resulted in the expansion of both medical services and additional facilities," said Brown. "With growth, change is inevitable and rebranding is but one of many steps we've taken to illustrate our unyielding commitment to the health and wellbeing of the community."

"Recognized as a patient centered medical home, we understand the significance of patient input and how it positively contributes to the quality of care they receive," added Brown. "We feel the new Tandem Health name and logo clearly portrays our team based approach to medical care where the patient's needs are front and center."

Since 2003, Tandem Health has provided comprehensive, affordable care to thousands of patients within the Sumter and surrounding communities. The history of Tandem Health details a story of continuous growth that has been in direct proportion to the health needs identified in the community. "From our origin as a safety net provider operating out of a single site on West Liberty Street to our current operation of a multisite primary care and multi-specialty practice with 220 plus employees serving over 15,000 patients annually, we have worked to respond to the genuine needs of our local community," said Brown. "As a Community Health Center, Tandem Health works to eliminate the barriers resulting from financial circumstances or social situations that often have a negative impact on patient's access to quality healthcare. Therefore, we ensure the provision of comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare and social services to medically underserved individuals and families regardless of their ability to pay," continued Brown. "Our patients not only get the care they need, but they are treated as individuals, with dignity and respect. This is what healthcare should be."

"It is very important for our patients to know that the name change is not the result of Sumter Family Health Center being bought out by an outside organization nor have we merged with a different company," states Curt Ackerman, Vice President of Strategic Development. "The decision to rebrand was initiated and carried out by our current administration. Our patients can rest assured that they will continue receiving the same great care they have come to expect from the same familiar faces they have come to know." He added, "We look forward to journeying through this next chapter of our history and love that our community and patients help serve as the main characters of the story."
