First Executive Director of the SCPHCA
We can shed tears that he is gone or
we can smile because he has lived. We can close our eyes and pray
that he'll come back or we can open our eyes and see all he's left.
Our hearts can be empty because we can't see him or we can be full
of the love shared.
We can turn back on tomorrow and live yesterday or we can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
We can remember him and only that he's gone or we can cherish memory and let it live on.
We can cry and close our mind, be empty and turn our back or we can do what He'd want: smile, open our eyes, love and go on.
Although Tom can no longer be seen, He will be remembered.

"I am a North Carolina girl, but it was Tom Lucas that convinced me to come to South Carolina almost 30 years ago. Tom had a way about him. Once you met him you would never forget him. He was charismatic and would find the lighter side of any situation. I recall having discussions with Tom, and by the time we finished our conversation, I would leave laughing. He had a way of having you see the positive side of any situation and making you realize that the matter wasn't as nearly as serious as you thought it was. Tom was definitely one of a kind."
